During the pandemic, there has been a significant shift in how people consume content. The popularity of OTT platforms has resulted in a reluctance to spend money on watching movies in cinemas, with many choosing to wait for OTT releases instead. Sri Crazyminds, speaking to Bangalore Times after a film editing session at the Bengaluru International Short Film Festival (BISFF), noted the impact of OTT platforms on mobile accessibility of content. According to him, people's attention spans have decreased to just twenty seconds, making it challenging to motivate individuals to leave the comfort of their homes and go to a theater to watch a movie. The quality of content plays a crucial role in attracting audiences to the big screen, as evidenced by the success of Malayalam cinema known for its compelling narratives. The competitiveness in the film industry has also increased with a plethora of choices available, leading to audience confusion. Lastly, releasing a movie in the current landscape requires a substantial budget, with at least ₹1 crore needed for a smooth release.Approximately 400 movies are submitted to the censor board for approval, but only around 200 of them end up being released in theaters. I believe these factors collectively contribute to the core of the issue.
